North Lindsey League Report - 24th April 2022 - Glen Sands

The Mick Walker Memorial North Lindsey League got under way on April 24th with just one match and it saw Luddington Dons pick up the first points of 2022 when gaining a comprehensive 10 wicket victory against a young Messingham outfit.

Messingham won the toss and elected to bat first against ten man Luddington who had a late drop out and the Isle side struck early when Matthew Teal caught and bowled opener Fowler when the total stood at one. George Longstaff and Matthew Henton took the score to 32 before the former was bowled by Arron Curry with his first delivery then Henton was run out by Brett Smith and the home side were reeling at 39 for 3. Joshua Joy and skipper Tom Sowerby rallied with a fourth wicket stand of 41 but when Sowerby was caught by Ryan Bonser off Curry for 21 and Joy went soon after caught by Curry off Bradley King for 24 the wheels quickly came off as two further wickets fell to King without a run being added. Ryan Bonser then mopped up the tail with three for five leaving Messingham all out for 96 , Bradley King and that man Bonser picking up three wickets apiece.

Experienced openers Martin Davey and Darren Clark wasted no time in knocking off the runs required with Clark in particular batting well , ending on 59 not out while Davey finished on 19 to help their team claim an opening day victory.

Next up for the Dons is a trip to Alkborough in the Mick Walker Memorial Trophy while Messingham have a week off before renewing rivalry with the Isle team once again.
